On August 4, the Houthis (Ansar Allah) released a video documenting operations which were recently carried out by their sniper units.
Houthi snipers hit five Saudi-backed Yemeni fighters and five Sudanese service members on the border line with the southern Saudi province of Jizan. Along the border line with the Kingdoms’ southern province of Najran, the snipers targeted a Saudi-backed Yemeni fighter and destroyed two surveillance cameras, which were installed in fortified positions.
The footage released by the Houthis confirms that some of the fighters who were targeted by their snipers were killed on the spot.
The Houthis arm their snipers with a variety of locally modified heavy sniper rifles and western-made sniper rifles, which had been captured from the Saudi military.
The Houthis’ sniper units inflict serious losses on the Saudi military and its proxies with almost no cost. The group’s anti-tank and engineer units follow a similar approach.
More resources are invested in the Houthis’ air force, air-defense force and missile force, who launch attacks on Saudi Arabia on a regular basis. A suicide drone launched by the group was intercepted by the Saudi-led coalition late on August 4.
