US combat drone continue to operate over the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib where several terrorist group are present and active.

At least two General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper drones were spotted flying over the region, fully-armed on several occasions between October 25 and 27.

The drones, all of the MQ-9 Extended Range (ER) variant, were armed with AGM-114 Hellfire-type missiles and carrying different unidentified pods, likely for communication and intelligence gathering.

Under the rule of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Greater Idlib became a large safe haven for terrorist groups and wanted terrorists in the Middle East.

In September, a US drone strike targeted Horas al-Din senior leader Salim Abu-Ahmad in the eastern Idlib countryside. A few days before the strike, US combat drones were spotted flying over Greater Idlib.

US combat drone are likely tracking down a wanted terrorist. Greater Idlib is now witnessing a battle between HTS and a smaller terrorist group that was allegedly sheltering terrorists from al-Qaeda’s Horas al-Din and ISIS.
