On October 21, a Russian Orlan-10 drone crashed in the outskirts of the Turkish-occupied town of Turkmen Bareh in the northern countryside of Syria’s Aleppo.

The Turkish-backed Syrian National Army claimed that the drone was shot down by its fighters. However, the drone’s wreckage didn’t show any signs of missile or machine gun fire. This suggests that the drone crashed as a result of a technical failure, or even an electronic attack by the Turkish military.

The Orlan-10 has a flight duration of 16 hours and a range of 140 km. The drone can be equipped with several types of sensors to carry out different missions including reconnaissance, 3D-mapping, electronic warfare and communication relay.

Russian forces in Syria have been relying on drones to keep a close eye at the Turkish military and its proxies in the northern Aleppo countryside. Ankara’s forces are reportedly preparing to launch a military operation against Kurdish forces in the region.
